SEAMEO RECFON Team conducted follow-up activities on 19-21 March 2024 in Sambas District related to its two flagship programs on Nutrition Goes to School (NGTS) and Early Childhood Care, Nutrition and Education (ECCNE).
Sambas District is one of the NGTS Program sites in Indonesia with the highest number of schools/madrasas (i.e., 11) that have reached the Institutionalization phase and are expected to scale up the program to other neighbouring schools/madrasas.
During the advocacy meeting with the partner-institutions, namely: Sambas District Education Department/Ministry of Religion, Pontianak Health Polytechnic and the NGTS school-partners on 19 March 2024, several things were agreed. These included the scheme for scaling up the NGTS Program in Sambas District, proposed names of targeted schools/madrasas for the scaling up, and the distribution of roles and responsibilities among the partner-institutions.
On the ECCNE Program, our team met with Pontianak Health Polytechnic, Sambas District Department of Women’s Empowerment, Child Protection and Family Planning Office, Sambas District Education Office, Sambas District Health Office, Sambas District Regional Research Agency, and Sambas Regional Government Welfare Section in Sambas District, as well as conducted an orientation of program facilitators at the Sambas District Department of Women’s Empowerment, Child Protection and Family Planning Office on 21 March 2024.

Jurianto Gambir, Head of Nutrition Department of Pontianak Health Polytechnic lead the discussion about NGTS scale-up plans in Sambas District. Meanwhile, Cahya Ayu Agustin, SEAMEO RECFON Community Development and Partnership Staff in her presentation emphasise that the NGTS Program is linear to School Health Clinic Program and Healthy School Campaign, focusing on nutrition empowerment.

Monitoring visits to several school-partners including SMAN 2 Sambas, SMPN 1 Sambas, MTs/MA Basiuni Imran, and several ECE institutions/PAUD of ECCNE Program, such as PAUD Sultoniah, PAUD Anugrah Desa Sebayan, and PAUD Kuntum Mekar in Sambas District.
